Dear Dr. Winder:
Q. I'm 29 years old and am married to a wonderful man; we have three children. Since I've had my babies, I'm embarrassed to have my husband see my breasts. They just seem to have shriveled up and disappeared. Would breast implants fix them?
A. Yes, breast augmentation is probably the right answer for you; it can make an incredible difference in how you look, and how you feel about yourself!
After pregnancy, the hormonal changes that take place in your body can cause your breast tissue to atrophy; this can leave the breasts looking "deflated". Breast implants can fill this void. Also, if your breasts are slightly "droopy", breast implants can make the breast appear to have been "lifted" without any of the scars that come hand-in-hand with breast lifting surgery. However, if you have significant droop, then you may need to have a breast lift, or "mastopexy", which can be performed at the same time as the breast augmentation.
You may have noticed a press release issued the first part of December last year by the judge in charge of the litigation involving breast implants, which started in 1991. This press release stated that the court-appointed scientists ordered to study breast implants had completed their studies and concluded that they are, in fact, safe. So, now, is an excellent time to consider this surgery.
Because I have done thousands of breast surgeries, the surgery takes no more
than two hours, and most patients return to work within several days. Statistics
show that 98% of women who do, are very glad that they did. Men also appreciate
the changes, both physical and psychological.
