FAQ'SBreast Augmentation Can Make A Wonderful Difference! | ||

Dear Dr. Winder: A. My first suggestion to you would be to take advantage of our consultations and come in to visit with us about breast implants. We'll spend close to one hour with you; all of the questions you've asked, along with many others will be covered in detail. In the meantime, I'll answer the questions you've asked today. Regarding size, we always try to make the patient the size they'd like to be; as a general rule, patients choose to be as large as they can, while still looking natural and in proportion to the rest of their body size/shape. However, there are certain parameters within which we need to work in order that the patient look natural. Whether the implant is placed on top of or underneath the pectoralis muscle depends upon your existing anatomy. For someone who's small breasted and on the thin side, underneath the muscle is usually more appropriate. For someone who's already a B-Cup, the best result is usually achieved by placing the implant on top of the muscle. Your choice for incision would be an "infra-mammary" incision or "peri-areolar" incision. If the areola, or pig-mented skin around the nipple, is large enough, an incision can be made right at the very edge of the areola, in a semi-circular fashion, using just the lower half of the areola. Your other option is to have an incision in the infra-mammary crease, under the breast; in this instance, the incision is approximately 1-1/2 inches in length. Both incisions generally heal very nicely. Breast augmentation can make a wonderful difference to a woman who's small breasted, asymmetrical in size, or for a woman whose breasts have "deflated" after pregnancy.
