FAQ'S

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) andForehead/Brow Lift

Dear Dr. Winder:
Q. I'm a woman in my 40's and I'm getting tired of my friends and family always telling me that I look angry, upset and tired. But, when I look in the mirror I look like I always have, I think. Can you tell me what might be happening to make people say this to me and what could be done about it?

A. It is not unusual for women and men to have facial aging changes take place so gradually that they, themselves, do not notice . . . but friends and family do. It would be necessary for me to see you in order to determine exactly what's going on; however, it is very common for someone to begin to look angry, upset and/or tired when changes in the face are taking place around the eyes. This kind of look is usually caused by aging upper and/or lower eyelids, and also quite often by drooping of the forehead which lowers the position of the eyebrows . . . all of which can be greatly improved with upper and/or lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) with or without some form of brow or forehead lift. These cosmetic procedures are some of the most reasonably priced surgeries, and can make, in many instances, the most dramatic improvement to the aging face. Blepharoplasty can very often be performed with local anesthetic only; upper or lower eyelid surgery only takes an hour or so. Both the excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. Patients consistently report that they experienced either very little or no pain at all, and almost always return to work within a matter of several days. Some forms of brow or forehead lifts can, too, be performed with local anesthetic only; in some instances a general anesthesia is necessary. A full forehead lift not only re-positions the brow back into its proper position, but can also provide significant improvement to horizontal wrinkles of the forehead and "frown" lines between the eyebrows. Patients having these procedures can usually return to work in a week or so. Call (970)259-3818 to schedule a consultation; or e-mail me at winder@durangoplasticsurg.com.
