Dear Dr. Winder:
Q. Recently I read about having liposuction to the neck area and a chin implant at the same time. I have a weak chin and fullness in my jawline. Is it normal to combine the two procedures?
A. The chin implant / liposuction surgery combination is a common duo of cosmetic procedures performed simultaneously. The reason these procedures are done together is that the chin and jawline have such a direct relationship to each other. When a patient has a weak chin, adding a chin implant will give an overall better effect, but by adding liposuction to the jawline to thin out the fullness, you would get your optimal result.
Chin implants can also be extremely effective when used alone when no correction of the jawline is needed.
Liposuction to the neck can also be performed alone when there is fullness to the jawline only.
