FACELIFTIf you're considering a facelift....
|
There's no getting around it...the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and daily life take their toll on our faces as we age. You'll notice a deepening of the nasolabial fold (the line that runs from the corner of your nose to the outside corner of your mouth), you'll develop jowls, and folds and fatty deposits in the neck. Facelifting, technically known as rhytidectomy, can improve facial aging changes by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and then re-draping the skin of your face and neck. There are different types of facelifts, for different parts of the face... a "complete facelift" covers the face from just above the ear down the face and includes the neck. An "anterior facelift" covers the face from just above the ear down; a "posterior facelift" covers just the neck. There is also a terrific procedure called a "subperiosteal facelift" which addresses the "mid-face" and raises the middle portion of the face up to the cheek. A facelift, regardless of the type, will not "stop the clock"; your face will continue to age with time. However, the effects of a facelift are lasting; the best candidates are patients who are healthy and have realistic expectations about what this surgery can accomplish.

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia with supplemental IV sedation or general anesthesia in our SurgiCenter in Durango with no overnight stay, complete confidentiality, and with considerable cost savings vs. hospitalization. The scars for different types of facelifts vary, but all are placed in a manner that is cosmetically acceptable.

Your face will be swollen and bruised, but discomfort is usually minimal and easily controlled with medication. Stitches and staples (staples are used in the hairbearing scalp) will be removed in one week. Every patient is different, but most patients can cover the last of the bruising with make-up within ten days to three weeks. Read our mostFrequently asked Questions about rhytidectomy.
