SUBPERIOSTEAL FACELIFTIf you're considering a mid-face facelift....
|
If you're noticing that your lower eyelids are "puffy" and "droopy", and that this puffiness and droopiness extends down onto the cheekbone and mid-face area, then a subperiosteal facelift will address both areas of concern. Up until a few years ago, there were no "good" options for the mid-face. A conventional facelift would not treat this area of the face; a conventional facelift "lifts" the lower two-thirds of the face in a lateral direction, back towards the ears, as well as the neck. However, because this portion of the face is shifting in a "downward" direction, the correction needs to take place in an "upward" direction. The best approach to the mid-face is through an incision that's almost identical to that used for a lower blepharoplasty; it is made directly under the lash line, but extends a little further laterally. Because of the approach used, a patient gets their lower eyelids done at hardly any additional cost! A subperiosteal facelift will not "stop the clock"; your face will continue to age with time. However, the effects of this surgery can be long-lasting lasting; you'll always be "ahead of the clock" than if you'd not had the surgery at all. The best candidates are patients who are healthy and have realistic expectations about what this surgery can accomplish.

Your lower eye-lids and mid-face will be swollen and slightly bruised, but discomfort is usually minimal and easily controlled with medication. The incision will be covered with steri-strips; these are removed, as well as the sutures, in one week. Every patient is different, but most patients can cover the last of the bruising with make-up within ten days to three weeks. Read our most Frequently asked Questions about Facelifts.
